E.O.T. Crane Sweden (7695)
Since August 2017, a new 500t heavy-duty process crane from Kranbau Köthen GmbH has been successfully in operation at Swedish transformer manufacturer ABB in Ludvika.
The special feature of this highly complex crane system is a special motor-adjustable heavy-duty traverse with individually movable attachment points, centre of gravity compensation and a hook turning device. This means that the various transformers of different weights, shapes and dimensions can all be transported horizontally and loaded safely.
The high-strength spindle drives with special bearings allow for the precise and individual adjustment of the support saddle in a longitudinal direction while also making it possible to adjust the width of the traverse in a transverse direction. A state-of-the-art electronic control system ensures both synchronous operation and the secure shut-down of the adjustment drives in the end positions. The steel construction of the traverse is extremely sturdy and torsion-resistant under all usage conditions.
The crane and the heavy-duty traverse are operated via remote control. The digital load display is shown not only on the remote display but also on the crane, making is easily visible to the operating personnel. Cleanroom conditions are an absolutely essential requirement for production at ABB, and this also applies to the crane, which is fitted with various covers and industrial extractors to absorb the unavoidable dust on the cables, brakes and track wheels.
The crane was handed over after just 3 weeks of assembly time. Once the old crane had been disassembled, the new crane system was installed onto a wrecking crane track at the end of the hall. The subsequent precision assembly, commissioning and testing were carried out directly at the later installation site inside the assembly hall. A special test traverse was used during the crane acceptance. There were only a few hours to load and unload the slabs weighing almost 30 tonnes and remove them from the hall.

Magnetic Traverse cranes Austria (7694)
Kranbau Köthen GmbH has delivered a new slab-turning crane for globally active Austrian steel corporation voestalpine Stahl Linz GmbH. A magnetic traverse is used as load-carrying equipment. Turning slabs using the smooth-turning magnets takes a lot of skill from the operators. All crane drivers are therefore trained in this special handling operation, which is now going really smoothly. The crane drivers and the project team are very happy with the performance and handling of the crane, which is the 13th crane that Kranbau Köthen GmbH has delivered to voestalpine Stahl GmbH.
- Crane type: Magnetic Traverse cranes
- Crane parameters: 55(63)-15t x 33.0m
- Customer: voestalpine Stahl Linz GmbH
- Country: Austria

Combi Crane Germany (7671)
Kranbau Köthen GmbH was able to deliver to very special cranes to HKM, or Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann GmbH, thereby supporting its customer in the renovation of its internal scrap logistics operations. The delivered crane systems are designed as triple-girder gantry cranes and are each fitted with two trolleys. The cranes can therefore load scrap using a magnetic hoist, and then transport the containers which weigh up to 60 tonnes. This project also involved the joint development of a crane simulator for training purposes. More information (in german) on this can be found here.
